I'm happy to share this recording, my first as a bandleader. This quartet, featuring myself, Molly Jones, Jeff Kimmel and Ishmael Ali developed this music over the course of a year of rehearsing, performing and improvising together, and I'm so thankful for their musicianship and patience in collaborating on this project. Most of the music is through-composed, but the notation is very open, meaning each performance is a little different, and the performers can add their own ideas and sensibilities as they wish. The compositions are at times collaged with field recordings, group improvisation, and foley sounds, creating a wide palette of colors that blend together to create a unique sonic environment. I spent much time refining this music as we played it, tinkering with the harmonies, structure, and flow of each piece, until it felt right. I'm really proud of how everything turned out, and am grateful to everyone for listening.
